I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and I believe that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the strength within them to overcome any obstacle they face in life. My goal as a therapist is to help people identify and utilize those strengths to take on the obstacles as they come their way. I have been practicing as both a Middle School Counselor since 2019 and a Mental Health Clinician since 2020 and specialize in helping teens and young adults navigate their grade school and college years. Outside of working with teens/young adults, my other areas of clinical focus include men’s mental health, leadership training, grief/loss, and generally navigating life’s difficult transitions.
As a clinician, I have worked with children from 10 years of age all the way into adulthood. Using a strengths-based, solution-focused mindset, I strive to provide a safe, judgement-free space where individuals can explore, learn, and create a new way of approaching the world and relationships. I utilize both directive & non-directive approaches to help people shift away from unhelpful thinking/behavior patterns, learn positive coping skills, and navigate stressful situations with confidence. While mental health struggles of one person may look or sound similar to another, each individual is the master and expert of their own life, and when I sit down with someone, I invite them to share their experiences with me so I can best tailor my support to fit their needs and circumstances.
As a School Counselor, I primarily work with grades 6-8 by helping students navigate all of the social and developmental changes that come along with middle school. I am familiar with how diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, ADHD can impact the academic and social dynamics of the school day. I am also well-versed in the 504 process for students in need of classroom-based accommodations. I meet with students individually, but also specialize in group counseling. Some groups I have created include topics like Leadership Training and Peer Support for Male-Identifying High School students.
“The goal has to be right for us, and it has to be beneficial, in order to ensure a beneficial process. But aside from that, it’s really the process that’s important.” – Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh
